Sugar Cookies with Decorator Icing

Presidents' Day...an excuse to make cookies!  The holiday is also an opportunity to educate my children about the meaning of this day as well as instill some patriotism into their hearts towards this awesome country, America.  So make cookies and celebrate leaders of a great nation!

Sugar Cookies
(printable recipe)
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 1/2 cups all purpose flour

Cream butter and sugar.  Add vanilla, sour cream and eggs and mix well.  Blend in baking soda, salt and 3 cups flour.  Add remaining flour and combine until mixed.  Refrigerate 30 minutes.
Dough will still be slightly sticky.  Roll out dough on floured surface.  Cut with floured cookie cutters.  Place on cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 F for 10 minutes.  Cool.

Decorator Icing
2 cups powdered sugar
4 teaspoons light  syrup
5 teaspoons milk
1 teaspoons vanilla
food coloring

Blend all ingredients together until smooth.
